Seahawks Open Preseason vs. Monarchs

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW men's soccer team opened its 2023 preseason slate with a 2-1 setback vs. Old Dominion at the UNCW Soccer Stadium on Saturday evening.

The Seahawks, playing the first game of a Soccerpalooza doubleheader, took an early 1-0 lead on a goal by fifth-year midfielder Omar Aboutaleb in the eighth minute. The Asheboro, N.C. native, was assisted on the score by graduate forward Parker Norris.

Monarchs forward Key White provided the equalizer 17:28 into the contest on assists by Michael Eberle and Nick Osyguys. Eberle added his second assist of the night on Valdimar Daoi Saevarsson's game-winning marker in the 44th minute.

Soccerpalooza, the UNCW men's and women's soccer doubleheader, proved successful with over 1,200 soccer fans in attendance at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.

UNCW next travels to Duke on Tuesday, Aug. 15, for an exhibition with the Blue Devils at 7 p.m.
