Seahawks to honor seniors on Sunday at Capt'n Bill's

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW wraps up its home schedule and celebrates Seniors Weekend when it hosts the College of Charleston, Coastal Carolina and Jacksonville at Capt'n Bill's Backyard Bar and Grill in beach volleyball action beginning on Saturday.

The Seahawks carry a 9-6 record into the weekend's action. They went 3-1 at the Charleston Beach Classic, sweeping two from Erskine and splitting a pair of duals with the host Cougars.

This season, UNCW has a 1-1 mark against CofC and dropped a 3-2 decision at Coastal Carolina. All three schools are members of the newly-created Sun Belt Conference volleyball league.

UNCW will honor and recognize seniors Tyla Cutrie and Ashley Thompson before the 12:30 p.m. match on Sunday against Charleston. Both are four-time letter winners in the program. Thompson is bearing down on the program's all-time wins record, needing six to tie the mark of 50 set by Maddy Kline and Katie McCullough in 2019.

Gabby LaPata, a freshman, and Sadie Sharkey, a junior have posted a mark of 11-4 in their first season as a pair and playing at the top spot in the lineup.

The Seahawks visit Jacksonville, Fla., next weekend for the Osprey Beach Invitational, hosted by North Florida. Their first dual is set for Apr. 7 at 8 a.m. against Mercer.
