Wills Named CAA Rookie of the Week

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Freshman infielder Brock Wills went 6-for-12 during a series win at Stony Brook and added three hits and four runs batted in against NC State earning him Rookie of the Week honors the Colonial Athletic Association on Monday.

Wills keyed UNCW's series-clinching win on Sunday with a pair of doubles and two runs scored as the Seahawks erupted for nine runs in the first two innings before cruising to a 9-3 win over Stony Brook at Joe Nathan Field.

For the week, Wills batted .444 with six runs batted in and extended his hitting streak to a career-long eight games.

Wills is second on the team with a .340 batting average and hits (36) and is tied for third with 22 runs scored.

Wills joins freshman teammate Tanner Thach as Seahawks who have been named Rookie of the Week.

The Seahawks visit nationally-ranked East Carolina on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. start before returning to Brooks Field for a three-game CAA series with newcomer North Carolina A&T. That series opens with a 6 p.m. start on Friday.
