Softball Preview: East Carolina

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW softball team returns home to begin a four-game homestand vs. East Carolina on Wednesday afternoon at Boseman Field.

First pitch between the Seahawks (9-16) and Pirates (20-9) is scheduled for 5 p.m. on FloSoftball with John Smist and Tom Lamont on the call. Live stats will be available on UNCWStats.com. Admission is free.

UNCW looks to regain the momentum it had built last week after sweeping Towson and beating North Carolina. The Seahawks were then swept at Delaware over the weekend in three close games.

The two-instate rivals meet for the 99th time and second time this season. ECU defeated UNCW 9-1 in five innings to close out the season-opening weekend back on Feb. 11.

The Pirates struck early that day, scoring eight runs in the first two innings, to cruise past UNCW after the Seahawks edged ECU 8-7 in Greenville last season. The schools have met every year except for 2014, 2019 and 2020 dating back to UNCW's inaugural 1985 campaign.

ECU went 2-2 in the Jolly Roger Invite last weekend, beating Cleveland State and Presbyterian but fell twice to Ohio State.

UNCW remains home this weekend to welcome CAA rival North Carolina A&T to the Port City. The three-game series will be a rematch of Mar. 5's 4-3 contest won by the Aggies in Columbia, S.C.
