Softball Preview: Delaware

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Colonial Athletic Association play continues for the hot-hitting UNCW softball team with a three-game series at Delaware this weekend at the UD Softball Stadium in Newark, Del.

The Seahawks (8-13, 3-0 CAA) will play a doubleheader vs. the Blue Hens (8-12, 1-2 CAA) on Saturday at noon before wrapping up the set at 1 p.m. on Sunday. All games will be streamed on FloSoftball with LiveStats available at UNCWStats.com.

The early conference series is a clash of the two teams projected atop the CAA Preseason Poll and last year's champions. UNCW was picked to finish first by the league's coaches after winning the CAA Tournament while Delaware, last year's conference regular season victor, was projected to place second before the start of the year.

The Seahawks won three of four matchups against the Blue Hens last year including a 4-2 triumph at the CAA Championships on their way to the program's first conference crown and NCAA Regional berth.

Delaware, who lost two of three at Charleston to open league play, meet UNCW amidst a four-game win streak.

The Seahawks swept Towson last weekend and dispatched North Carolina 6-1 on Wednesday. UNCW has totaled 42 hits over its current run, including 32 vs. the Tigers, which represents the second-highest mark in a CAA series by the Seahawks since joining the conference in 2004.

UNCW used five pitchers to down the Tar Heels, its first win against a Power Five opponent in four seasons, the most hurlers in a game since Feb. 22, 2020, vs. George Washington – a 118-game span.

Following the weekend, UNCW welcomes in-state rival East Carolina to Boseman Field on Wednesday, Mar. 22 for a single game at 5 p.m. before hosting North Carolina A&T from Mar. 25-26.
