Softball Completes CAA Sweep of Charleston

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW's Ava Brookshire and Allison Corbin drove in five runs as the Seahawks completed a Coastal Athletic Association softball series sweep of Charleston with a 5-1 victory on Sunday afternoon at Boseman Field.

The Seahawks upped their record to 7-2 in the league and stand 19-13 overall. The Cougars fell to 7-5 in the CAA and 16-21 in 2026.

Brookshire and Corbin each plated a pair of runs with a double and single, respectively, in a four-run third inning that began with back-to-back singles by senior Grace Hennessy and junior Cassidy Relay.

Corbin followed with an RBI double two innings later to make it five straight runs following the Cougars first-inning score on a Leela Langston sacrifice-fly, the only run allowed in UNCW starter Peyton Eckert's (2-1) four-inning effort.

Relay concluded the weekend 9-for-11 with six runs scored following her third three-hit day of the weekend while sophomore Lynsie Herman worked three scoreless innings for her second save of the series.

Charleston's Ryley Kutter (2-6) tossed four innings the loss.

The Seahawks host longtime rival East Carolina on Tuesday at 5 p.m. before resuming CAA play next Friday and Saturday at Hampton.
