Softball Runs Win Streak to Seven

HAMPTON, Virginia – The UNCW softball team outscored Hampton 16-1 over two games to sweep a Friday afternoon Coastal Athletic Association doubleheader at the Pirates Softball Stadium.

The Seahawks (22-13, 9-2 CAA) ran their win streak to a season-high seven games with 7-0 and 9-1 wins. The Pirates fell to 8-24 and 2-12 in the league.

Juniors Allison Corbin erupted for four hits, including a home run and two doubles, and drove in career-high-tying four runs after junior Madison Biddle set the tone with a three-run home run as the Seahawks rolled to a win in the weekend opener.

UNCW established a season-high with 15 hits, eight of which for extra bases. Senior Grace Hennessy and sophomore Sierra Persinger also notched doubles while juniors Peyton Carver and Averie Daughtry hit triples.

In the circle, freshman Camille Hamilton (8-3) fired six scoreless innings and junior Taylor Barlow struck out the side in a scoreless seventh as the Seahawks matched a single-season program record with 11 shutouts.

Hampton's Ava Lester (4-4) tossed a complete game in the loss.

In the second game, UNCW scored seven runs over the final three innings, including a Cassidy Relay steal of home. Corbin and Biddle both added an RBI to their Friday totals in the afternoon capper.

Sophomore Lynsie Herman (6-2) combined with Barlow and junior Peyton Eckert to limit the Pirates to one run.

Hampton's McKenzie Rimmer-Jones (4-6) tossed a complete game in the loss.

The series concludes on Saturday at 2 p.m.
