Thatch Named CAA Rookie of the Week

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW freshman first baseman Tanner Thach earned Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week honors on Monday following an impressive debut over the weekend at the Hughes Bros Challenge.

Thach hit .500 (5-10) on the weekend, scored five runs, drove in six and belted a home run in his first collegiate plate appearance. The Seahawks went 2-1 on the weekend with wins over Ohio and Navy.

In his debut, Thach's three-run homer highlighted a five-run first inning against Ohio. He added a two-run single in the fifth to push UNCW's lead to 12-6. Thach added two more hits, scored twice and knocked in one against Navy.

The Seahawks host Iona and Georgetown beginning on Friday for the Carolinas Coastline Classic.
