WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Redshirt-sophomore
Khamari McGriff looks to take on a more significant role for the Seahawks this season. The Tallahassee, Florida, native scored 14 points and collected seven rebounds in the exhibition win against Coker on Wednesday night.Â
Last season, McGriff averaged 1.4 points on less than six minutes per game, but with the departure of
Amari Kelly, who anchored the paint last season, McGriff has put in a lot of work in the offseason to be in the position he is in now.
Â
"Spending time in the weight room and film room … Just getting my body more acclimated to playing the game at this level," said McGriff of his offseason efforts.
Â
"We have a great coaching staff; they've pulled me aside and talked to me about what it's going to look like. We've been through things in practice, a lot of situational stuff. It doesn't feel too new or as new as I thought it would, but it's fun, it's different, just a little adjustment."
McGriff credits the coaching staff for the strides he's made since coming to campus, and the staff is just as pleased with his work
"To look at how far he's come, I'm very proud of him. Very pleased with his effort," said Head Coach
Takayo Siddle, "He's an elite finisher around the rim. And he did some good things on the defensive end, so I'm very proud of him.
