Houston Dynamo Elevates Bundy, Roberts

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – New opportunities await two ascending coaches with UNCW men's soccer ties following a midseason coaching shakeup with Major League Soccer's Houston Dynamo FC organization.

Former Seahawk Assistant Coach Kenny Bundy, who managed MLS Next Pro's Houston Dynamo 2, was elevated to Interim Head Coach of the MLS parent club through the 2022 season on Monday. In a corresponding move, UNCW alum Daniel Roberts, an assistant under Bundy with Dynamo 2, has been tabbed to replace Bundy as manager of the Houston affiliate through the end of the season.

Roberts was a midfielder for the Seahawks from 2007-11 while Bundy served on UNCW Head Coach Aidan Heaney's staff from 2009-12.

"What a tremendous opportunity for Kenny and Daniel, two extremely bright soccer minds and talented young coaches," said Heaney. "They have continued to gain valuable experiences and put themselves in a position to be ready for this promotion. I know they will do very well!"

The pair helped the Seahawks to their first NCAA Tournament in 2009, with Roberts scoring the lone goal on a free kick in UNCW's opening round match at Charlotte. The Seahawks advanced past the 49ers on penalty kicks (4-1) after playing to a 1-1 score in regulation.

Roberts started 61-of-65 games in his five-year career and is tied fourth all-time in assists (18) and fifth in shots on goal (55) in program history. The Sugar Land, Texas, product was a two-time All-CAA performer with the Seahawks, including a Second-Team nod in 2011 after finishing tied for sixth in the conference with five assists. The 6-1 midfielder also was named to the CAA All-Rookie squad in 2007.

Bundy joined the Seahawks in 2009 following a playing career with the Wilmington Hammerheads FC. UNCW matched its most wins in a season with 14, including a program single-season high eight CAA victories, in Bundy's first season.

The 41-year-old Bundy was named the first Head Coach of Dynamo 2 on Jan. 28, 2022, ahead of the inaugural MLS Next Pro season. He has been with the Houston club since 2016, serving as the Head Coach of the Houston Dynamo Academy's U-23 and U-19 teams.
