Baldwin Tabbed By White Sox

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW infielder Brooks Baldwin was selected in the 12th round of the Major League Baseball draft on Tuesday.

Baldwin was selected by San Francisco in the 2021 draft but returned to UNCW where he was named the Colonial Athletic Association's Player of the Year while making a move from the outfield to second base.

As a red-shirt junior last season Baldwin led the CAA with a career-high .348 batting average and 116 total bases. His slugging average of .621 was second overall in the league. He finished the season with 13 home runs and stole 16 bases, marking his second consecutive season with double figures in each category.

In addition to his CAA honor, Baldwin was also a first-team All-CAA selection and earned second-team All-Atlantic honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association.

Baldwin is the first Seahawk selected by the White Sox in the regular draft. Barnes Yelverton was taken in January of 1973 in the winter draft.

Incoming freshman Tanner Thach was selected by the Giants with the last pick of the 18th round.
