Harry's Game Attracts Large Community Support

WILMINGTON, N.C. – A large batch of community supporters were on hand for the festivities of the eighth-annual Harry's Game between the UNCW men's soccer team and High Point on Saturday at UNCW Soccer Stadium.

UNCW took the game, 3-1, behind a hat trick from Jalen AndersonUNCW moved to 4-0-4 all-time in the springtime exhibition with wins over NC State, Wake Forest, Appalachian State, and HPU.

The Seahawks concluded their five-game spring schedule with Harry's Game, which was played for the first time since 2019. A crowd of 619 was on hand to celebrate the importance of acceptance and raise funds for children with special needs.

A special pre-game clinic with Seahawk and Panther players featured children of all ages laughing and playing together. UNCW Head Coach Aidan Heaney spoke with the kids and families after the clinic about treating everyone with kindness and respect regardless of a disability.

The charity event featured face paintings, bounce houses, music, and a jersey auction for one-of-a-kind adidas Harry's Game jerseys worn by UNCW players during the match. All funds from ticket sales and the jersey auction go directly towards local initiatives such as Special Olympics and TOPS Soccer.

Harry's Game was named after Heaney's son, Harry, who was born with Down Syndrome. First played in 2013, the game serves as an opportunity to showcase the special abilities and personalities of each typical and non-typical child.
