Three Netters Make Final Home Appearance

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW women's tennis team pays tribute to graduate students Sasha Belaya, Maddy Muller-Hughes and Rachel Marthinsen early Saturday (April 23, 2022) when the Seahawks wrap up their home schedule vs. Colonial Athletic Association rival Charleston at the UNCW courts.
 
The Seahawks, 12-5, take on the Cougars in a rematch at noon. CofC downed UNCW, 5-1, last Saturday at the CofC Tennis Center. A special recognition ceremony will take place at 11:50 a.m.
 
Belaya, a native of Melbourne, Fla., and graduate transfer from Illinois, is a combined 18-7 in singles and doubles this season and is earning her Master's Degree in Integrated Marketing.
 
Muller-Hughes joined the Seahawk program five years ago from Perth, Australia, and is completing her Master's Degree in Gerontology. A co-captain, she owns a 3-0 record this spring.
 
A native of Charlotte, Marthinsen, also a co-captain, stands 3-1 in singles and 1-0 in doubles this season. She will be receiving her Master's Degree in Accounting.
 
"Each of these three seniors has contributed in their own way to making this team better," said UNCW Head Coach Hans Olsen. "They are leaders and a huge part of our special team culture. We congratulate and thank them all."
 
The Seahawks, who have won three of their last four matches, are 58-41 (.586) in singles and 32-13 (.711) in doubles this spring.
 
The 2022 CAA Women's Tennis Championships run Thursday through Sunday, Apr. 28-May 1, at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center in Elon, N.C.
