WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – No.4 UNCW women's tennis team was shut out, 4-0, by No. 5 Drexel in the CAA quarterfinal on Friday afternoon at the Mackesy Tennis Center.
The Seahawks' lone win came in doubles play as Sophia Catino and Alicia Eberwein earned a 6-3 victory on court three.
UNCW finished the season 10-6 overall and 5-3 in conference play. Drexel improved to 10-9 overall and 4-3 in the CAA and will face No. 1 Elon on Saturday.
In doubles action, Elif Albayrak and Eda Arli dropped a 7-6 (9-7) decision on court one to Adva Dabah and Lorie Lemongo, while Lucia Gomez and Simay Keles fell 6-1 on court two to Rebecca Fiedler and Anastasia Kavounov.
Albayrak and Arli finished 13-3 overall in doubles, and Gomez and Keles finished 6-9, while the winning pair of Eberwein and Catino finished 9-6 after their win today.
In singles play, Alex Borcich suffered a 6-2, 6-1 loss to Sofiya Snitko on court six. Gomez followed with a 6-4, 7-5 setback against Fiedler on court five. Katelyn Hubbard dropped a 7-6 (9-7), 6-3 decision on court three, clinching the match for Drexel. The remaining singles matches were abandoned.
