Sparks, UNCW Hold Leads At Wofford Invitational

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Led by three players in the top 10, including tournament-leader Patrick Sparks, UNCW got out to a 14-stroke lead through two rounds at the Wofford Invitational on Monday.

The Seahawks, who are playing their final test before the Colonial Athletic Association Championships later this month, posted a season-low round of 271 in the second round. Sparks led that second round charge with a career-low seven-under-par 65.

UNCW leads host Wofford and Appalachian State, who are tied for second, by 14 strokes entering the final round on Tuesday. Mercer and Kennesaw State round out the top five.

Joining Sparks in the top 10 are sophomore Walker Isley (74-66=140) and Drew Hackett (70-72=142) who are tied for fourth and 10th, respectively.

The Seahawks and Wofford were tied at six-under through the first round, but the Seahawks were able to turn it on and post a 14-stroke advantage in the second round.

Sander Akeren, Sparks and Isley recorded 11 birdies apiece between the two rounds.

UNCW will begin the third and final round at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday and will be joined by Wofford and Appalachian State.
