Men's Golf Begins CAA Title Quest

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW men's golf team begins the quest for its ninth conference championship when the 2026 Coastal Athletic Association Championships tee off at the Dataw Island Club in St. Helena Island, S.C., from Apr. 26-28.

The Seahawks enter the weekend as the highest-ranked team – No. 43 according to the latest Clippd rankings – in the 10-team field, four spots above Charleston. UNCW and the Cougars have combined to win 13 straight CAA titles from 2011-24 before Elon edged Drexel in a sudden-death playoff one year ago.

UNCW enjoyed an impressive regular season under first-year head coach Blake Taylor, who was elevated to the permanent position in February after serving as the interim head coach since August 2025.

The Seahawks went undefeated in March with back-to-back wins at the ECU Intercollegiate and the UNCW-hosted Seahawk Intercollegiate on Mar. 31. Fifth-year Gray Mitchum also captured the individual crown in both events.

UNCW began the spring with a runner-up result at Jacksonville's SeaBest Invitational and tied for fifth at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate in mid-April.

The Seahawks also fashioned two second-place finishes in the fall at Elon and Duke, with UNCW's John Logan claiming individual medalist honors at the Blue Devil-hosted Rod Myers Invitational in the season opener.

UNCW last won the CAA Championship in 2023 and have also won the title in 2004, 2005, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2018 and 2019. Seven UNCW golfers have won the individual crown, most recently Patrick Sparks in 2023.
