Baseball Preview: East Carolina

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW and East Carolina will take the field for the 141st time as opponents on Tuesday when they meet in the first of a home-and-home series at 6 p.m.

The Seahawks (12-7) have won each of the last two meetings between the programs, including a 10-2 victory last March at Brooks Field.

UNCW won 3-of-4 games last week against visiting Ohio State. In the series finale, freshman Cyle Phelan earned the win with 6.2 innings of work. He allowed one run on three hits and struck out six. Matt Suggs collected three hits, scored twice and drove in two, both coming in a four-run eighth inning to break open a 3-1 game.

Fellow freshman RJ Sales was honored by the Colonial Athletic Association as its Rookie of the Week. Sales blanked Ohio State for 6.2 innings and allowed just two hits in his career-long outing.

East Carolina dropped its series at the College of Charleston last weekend. The Pirates carry a 10-10 record into Tuesday's game.

Prior to the game, UNCW will recognize the men's swimming and diving program for winning the program's 14th Colonial Athletic Association championship in February. Also being recognized will be Brooke Knisely, who competed last weekend at the NCAA Championships. She was the first Seahawk to qualify for the NCAA Championships since 2013.
