WILMINGTON, N.C. – For the second straight season, UNCW red-shirt junior catcher
Matt Suggs has been named to the Buster Posey Award watch list.
The award is presented by Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission and goes to the top catcher in the nation.
Through 12 games, Suggs is hitting .293 and slugging .488 on the strength of a pair of doubles and home runs. Suggs, who is tied for the team lead with eight walks, has scored 10 runs and stole two bases.
Over his last three games, he's hitting .384 with four runs scored.
Semifinalists for the award will be announced May 19, and three finalists will be announced June 7. A final vote among the national committee will occur during the College World Series. All finalists will be brought to Wichita, Kansas, and the winner will be announced June 29.
