Three Seahawks In The Top Five At Forest Creek

PINEHURST, N.C. – Buoyed by three golfers in the top five, UNCW holds a four-stroke lead over VCU for the tournament lead through 18 holes at the Forest Creek Collegiate on Saturday at the North Course.

The Seahawks finished the opening 18 holes at two-over, battling a weather front that rolled through the area bringing high winds and dropping temperatures.

Joining UNCW in the top five in order are VCU, Elon, Richmond and Davidson.

Red-shirt junior Drew Hackett finished one-under and is one stroke behind Elon's Bronson Myers for the medalist lead. Joining him in the top five are sophomore Walker Isley, the Colonial Athletic Association's reigning Golfer of the Week, and Lansdon Robbins, both tied for third following even-par rounds.

Sander Akeren, a sophomore, is tied for 20th at three-over and Patrick Sparks, another freshman, is tied for 44th at six-over.

Senior Austin Bonfiglio, who is playing as an individual, is tied with Sparks at six-over.

The second round is slated for an 11 a.m. start on Sunday.
