Seahawks Host UNCA, Penn State This Weekend

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The UNCW women's tennis team continues its home schedule this weekend with a pair of matches against state rival UNC Asheville and first-time opponent Penn State.

The Seahawks, 6-2, are coming off a 7-0 victory over NAIA member Georgetown, Ky., on Tuesday and open a four-match homestand with the Bulldogs and Nittany Lions.

UNCW stands 29-19 (.604) in singles and 18-5 in doubles (783) this spring. Junior Brinley Bell, graduate student Lauren Gish and freshman Stela Joksimovic each have four singles victories to lead the team. The No. 1 doubles tandem of Gish and graduate student Sasha Belaya own a perfect 4-0 mark.

UNCW will battle UNCA in the first meeting between the two schools since 2009 on Friday at 11:30 a.m. The Bulldogs bring an 8-1 record to the coast in only their third road match of the spring season. Redshirt senior Taylor Love and senior Lize Alert Morkel anchor Head Coach Lise Gregory's team.

The Seahawks then entertain Penn State on Saturday in a 2:30 p.m. match. The Nittany Lions carry a 5-6 record into a Friday match at East Carolina.

"We expect these two matches to be really hard fought," said Hans Olsen, UNCW's six-year head coach. "There will be a lot of exciting tennis on the courts this weekend."

The matches will be held at the UNCW courts adjacent to Trask Coliseum. Admission and parking is free.
