Baseball Preview: Coastal Carolina

Longtime rivals meet for the first of two games this season on Wednesday

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW concludes an eight-game homestand to open the season on Wednesday when it hosts longtime rival Coastal Carolina at 4 p.m.

The Chanticleers carry a five-game winning streak into Wednesday's game and stand at 6-1. The Seahawks (5-2), meanwhile, saw their five-game winning streak halted last weekend with a pair of losses to Rutgers on Saturday.

The game is the first of a home-and-home series this season that sees the Seahawks visit Conway, S.C., on Apr. 5.

UNCW won the three-game series against Coastal. The Chants claimed the first game, 8-2, before the Seahawks earned wins in the final two contests in late April.

Seahawk red-shirt junior infielder Brooks Baldwin continues his torrid start to the season toting a .484 batting average with six extra base hits and seven stolen bases in the midweek contest.

For the Chants, who are hitting .340 as a team, Dale Thomas has fueled the offense, hitting .375 with eight extra base hits and 12 runs batted in.

The Seahawks hit the road for the first time this season when they visit Appalachian State for a three-game series beginning on Friday at 4 p.m.
