Seahawks Win Third Match Of Season

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW secured the doubles point and then swept the first four singles position for a 5-2 victory over visiting Gardner-Webb in women's tennis action on Saturday at the UNCW Courts.

The Seahawks improved to 3-1 on the season and 2-0 at home with the triumph. It was the start of a four-match homestand for Coach Han Olsen's team. The Bulldogs dropped to 1-4 and 0-2 on the road.

The No. 2 doubles tandem of freshman Stela Joksimovic and junior Zoe Huffman picked up the critical doubles point with a 6-3 verdict against GWU's Teodora Ristic and Maria Jardim to set the tone for the match.

In singles, junior Brinley Bell was the first off the court following a 6-3, 6-2, decision over Jardim at No. 3 singles before Huffman added an identical score vs. GWU's Elin Hellberg at the No. 2 slot.

Graduate transfer Lauren Gish then clinched the match by cruising past Elise Semmartin, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 4 singles.

The Seahawks continue their lengthy home stay on Sunday with a 10 a.m. match against visiting East Carolina.
