Women's Tennis Team Signs Two Recruits

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW women's tennis head coach Hans Olsen has announced the signing of two players for the 2023-24 season.

Katelyn Hubbard of Richmond, Va., and Lucia Gomez of Castello, Spain, have signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Seahawks next year.

Hubbard will join the Seahawks following an outstanding prep career at Cosby High School in Midlothian, Va. The 4-star recruit won the Virginia state championship in 2021 and was named as the best high school player from Virginia by USA Today.

"I'm overjoyed about becoming a Seahawk," said Hubbard. "I'm extremely excited to see how my game advances, and what I will accomplish with the tremendous team and coaches at UNCW. I couldn't be happier with my decision, and I'm grateful for this opportunity."

Hubbard gives the coaching staff another outstanding young player to round out the team.

Olsen said, "Our coaching staff is very excited to have Katelyn join the Seahawk family. She is a great fit with our program. Katelyn brings a lot to our team with her strong work ethic and passion for being a part of a team. We are looking forward to having her join our program."

Gomez, meanwhile, is ranked 78th in the women's rankings in Spain and was a semifinalist in the Madrid Volvo Cup Masters National Tournament. She also competed in the Marca Junior Cup, which features the top eight junior players in Spain.

""Lucia will be a wonderful addition to our program," said Olsen. "Her character as a person and her tennis are a great fit with our team. Lucia will be pursuing a degree in business. We are very excited to have Lucia join the Seahawk family."
