Hobbs Heads To Louisville For NCAA Regionals

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Junior Kendall Hobbs of the UNCW women's cross country team will join more than 300 competitors on Friday (Nov. 11) at the NCAA Southeast Regional Cross Country Championships at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville, Ky.

The Beavercreek, Ohio, runner finished 20th at the recent Colonial Athletic Association Championships in Newark, Del., with a PR of 22:24 over 6K, meeting team qualifying standards for the postseason race hosted by the University of Louisville.

Thirty-nine women's teams are scheduled to compete in the 6K race, which begins at 11 a.m. The top two teams and the first four finishers in the race not associated with those two teams advance to the NCAA Championships, held Nov. 19 in Stillwater, Okla.

"Kendall has helped create our standard of excellence here at UNCW," said fourth-year Head Cross Country Coach Jeff Klaves. "When she signed as a freshman, she was aware of our decorated past and wanted the opportunity to leave a legacy that she would be proud of.  She has done that and this race represents all the hard work and discipline she has dedicated to this team and to herself.

"We're excited for Kendall to race against the nation's best at the regional. Kendall is the first cross country athlete in my tenure to compete at the NCAA Regionals and has inspired her team along the way. She has a race plan, she has her goals and she is ready."

Hobbs was the team's top finisher in all five races this fall, including a first-place result in the UNCW Beach Blast on Sept. 9, 2022.
