Hobbs Sets New PR At NCAA Southeast Regionals

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW junior Kendall Hobbs set a new personal best in the 6K to finish 78th out of 228 competitors early Friday at the NCAA Southeast Regional Cross Country Championships at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville, Ky.

The Beavercreek, Ohio, native smashed her previous PR by clocking a 21:49 time over the rolling 6K course. Hobbs recently ran a previous PR of 22:24 at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships in Newark, Del.

"This result has been three years in the making," said Jeff Klaves, UNCW's Head Cross Country Coach. "Kendall worked very hard over the summer to prepare for this season. She's experienced so much growth. We're excited. This will catapult our distance program back to where it needs to be."

Hobbs, who moved up to fourth on UNCW's all-time list in the 6K, was in 107^th place at the mile post before picking up the pace to wind up 78^th. "She had a plan, was ready and did a great job," added Klaves.

Hobbs was ecstatic about her finish in the race. "I'm very excited about my performance today," she said. "I had a goal. I needed to go out with a big group of girls, run hard and I think it did that. It started to spread out at the two-mile mark and I really knew where I wanted to be at that point.

"It means everything to me. I've worked so hard over the past year to get to this point. Just making it here is exciting and rewarding for me."

NC State's Katelyn Tuohy came in first place at the SE Regionals with a time of 19:49 to help the Wolfpack finish 1-2-3 in the race.

Hobbs was UNCW's top individual finisher in all five races during the regular season, including a first-place result in the UNCW Beach Blast on Sept. 9, 2022.
