Volleyball Preview: Hampton

UNCW to honor four seniors on Sunday

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW will honor four seniors this weekend when it closes out the season hosting Hampton for two matches on Nov. 12-13 at Hanover Hall.

Playing their final matches for the Seahawks are Kirsten Badowski (Brunswick, Ohio), Ashley Thompson (Virginia Beach, Va.), Brooke Hanshumaker (Cary, N.C.) and Katie Lanz (South Elgin, Ill.).

Saturday's match is set for a 4 p.m. start and the seniors will be recognized prior to Sunday's match, which is set for a 2 p.m. first serve.
Both matches will be streamed on FloSports.tv.

Last weekend the Seahawks dropped a pair of matches to visiting Elon, including a come-from-behind five-set setback. UNCW dropped the first two sets but rallied in sets three and four to force a fifth.

Lanz became the 15th Seahawk to surpass the 800 career kill mark and enters this weekend with 803 kills to her credit. Also climbing the career leaderboards was Annabelle Schall, a junior, who is now 15th all-time with 1,083 assists.

At the net, red-shirt sophomore Caitlyn Callahan moved into the conference leaders this season in hitting average at a .287 clip. Callahan had a career-high 17 kills in the five-set loss and hit .421.

Sophomore Grace Melnick also collected a career-tying high of 13 kills in Sunday's match and her hitting average of .521 was a career best.
