Martin Adds a Trio of Seahawks For 2023-24

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW women's basketball Interim Head Coach Tina Martin has announced the addition of three student-athletes to the Seahawk program for the 2023-24 campaign.

North Carolina products Kylie Chavis, Corrie McLaughlin and Kylah Silver become the first additions to next season's roster after inking National Letters of Intent.

Chavis, a Red Springs, N.C. native, averaged 22.0 ppg, 9.8 rpg and 6.3 apg at Purnell Swett High School in her junior season. A crafty guard, the 5-7 Chavis has come up with 207 steals and 22 blocks across three seasons for the Rams.

"Kylie is a combo guard who does a little bit of everything on the court. She can score, pass, and defend," said Martin. "She loves to pass the ball and set up her teammates. Kylie is a hard-nosed tough player who will take charges, dive on the floor and do whatever it takes to win. I really like her competitiveness and grit."

McLaughlin is a two-sport star at Millbrook High School where she also plays lacrosse. The 6-2 forward was an All-Conference performer who helped the Wildcats to a 40-10 record over the past three years.

"Corrie is a versatile post player who can score inside and outside. We have been recruiting her for quite a while, and we are so excited she is a Seahawk," said Martin. "She runs the floor in transition, blocks shots, and she will be a force for UNCW. I love her toughness and competitiveness. Corrie will have an immediate impact on our program."

The Raleigh, N.C., product, averaged 6.4 ppg in 22.3 mpg for Millbrook last season.

Silver is a guard who has scored 1,245 points and pulled in 450 rebounds while attending D.H. Conley in Greenville, N.C. The 5-10 Silver is a three-time Big East AAA/AAAA Conference Player of the Year and helped the Vikings two conference championships.

"Kylah can score on all three levels and rebounds the ball very well at the guard position," said Martin. "She is an outstanding athlete who has a very good feel for the game. She is a winner and loves to compete.

"Our staff has followed her closely these past two years and she has grown into an outstanding player. We are excited she is a Seahawk. She is going to be fun to watch in a UNCW uniform."

A multi-sport star, Silver has also played volleyball and softball while at Conley.

All three future Seahawks enjoyed a club career with the Carolina CP3 Flames. Current Seahawk guard Kendal Moore is also a Flames alumnus.
