Newsome Collects CAA Weekly Honors

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW freshman Ethan Newsome has earned Colonial Athletic Association Co-Rookie of the Week honors following his game-winning goal at Northeastern on Saturday night.

Newsome, who shares the accolade with Monmouth's Eryk Dymora, recorded his first career goal in the 86th minute to down the Huskies and extend the Seahawks' unbeaten streak to seven games.

The Myrtle Beach, S.C., native, who was assisted by Adam Hillis and Bachir Ndiaye, sliced through the Northeastern defense and curled a shot from just inside the box that found the upper-left corner to push the Seahawks past the Huskies late.

Newsome recorded two of UNCW's four shots in a career-high 45-minutes as a reserve. The 5-8 midfielder/forward has appeared in six games for the Seahawks, who remain the only unbeaten team in conference play following the rookie's heroics.

It is the Seahawks' second CAA Weekly Award this year following Gabriel Perrotta's Co-Defensive Player of the Week distinction on Sept. 5.

The Seahawks, 4-1-4 (3-0-2 CAA), sit in second place in the conference standings with a key home matchup vs. third-place Hofstra, 6-2-1 (3-1-1 CAA), on Saturday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m.
