Delaware Tops Volleyball In Four Sets

NEWARK, Delaware – UNCW dropped a 3-1 decision at Delaware on Saturday in Colonial Athletic Association volleyball action at the Bob Carpenter Center.

Delaware, which halted a three-match losing skid, upped its record to 13-9 overall and 8-5 in the league. The Seahawks, meanwhile, dropped to 3-17 and 1-10 in the league.

The Seahawk opened the match with a 25-18 win, but the Blue Hens rallied for a 2-17 win in the second set. UD completed the comeback winning 25-23 and 25-22 in the third and fourth sets.

Senior Katie Lanz came up short of a double-double, finishing with nine kills and 12 digs. Caitlyn Callahan, a sophomore, hit .462 on the strength of 6-0-13 hitting and added three blocks.

At the net, the Seahawks out-blocked the Blue Hens, 9-6, as Alexa Brezeault and Brooke Hanshumaker each had five total blocks.

Lani Mason (13), Savannah Seemans (12) and Kirah Johnson (11) all finished with double-digit kill totals.

Mason and Seemans chalked up double-doubles with 11 and 20 digs, respectively.

The series concludes with a 2 p.m. start on Sunday.
