Florida State Blanks UNCW In ITA Kick-Off Opener

GAINESVILLE, Florida – UNCW took the first match off the court in doubles play, but Florida State rallied to blank UNCW, 4-0, on the opening of the 13th Annual Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Kick-Off Weekend early Saturday at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex.

The Seminoles raised their record to a perfect 6-0 with the victory. UNCW dropped its spring opener and will face the loser of a late Saturday match between No. 3 Florida and Princeton in Sunday's consolation at 10 a.m.

Playing indoors due to unseasonably cold temperatures in the Sunshine State, the two teams opened the match with doubles and the Seahawks enjoyed a good start by claiming the No. 3 doubles match. Sophomore Reece Falck and senior Davide Innocenti topped FSU's Josh Karpenschif and Maks Silagy, 6-2. The Seminoles then registered victories at the No. 2 and No. 1 positions to take the early point.

FSU then wrapped up the match by winning the first three singles pairings. Junior Loris Pourroy clinched the match by outlasting Innocenti, 7-6 (5), 6-4, at the top spot in the lineup.

Sixty teams are competing at 30 regional sites in the event. Four teams are participating at each regional, with the winners advancing to the indoor nationals.
