Men's Tennis Team Adds Newcomers

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Head Coach Mait DuBois of the UNCW men's tennis team is bolstering the roster of the defending Colonial Athletic Association champions with a pair of mid-year newcomers.

Jacco Arends of Groningen, Netherlands, and Harold Huens of Waterloo, Belgium, are set to join the Seahawks for the upcoming 2021-22 spring season.

"We're very excited about adding two exceptional players to a very strong team core," said DuBois, a seven-time CAA Coach of the Year honoree. "Both Jacco and Harold display the kind of character, work ethic and commitment to excellent on the court and in the classroom that we look for. "

Jacco Arends, 6-4, RH, Groningen, Netherlands
Ranked in the top-5 Holland Juniors… Singles Semi-finalist and Doubles finalist in Junior Nationals… Winner of ITF Doubles title…Has doubles win over two nationally-ranked college doubles players

Coach DuBois Says: "Jacco was highly recommended to us by one of our Dutch alumni who runs a very successful recruiting agency. He knows exactly the kind of players we're looking for here at UNCW. Jacco has a very big game that revolves around a large serve and forehand. He's been described as a relentless worker and is very passionate about reaching his potential as a player. He has a lot of tools to work with and we're excited about what he brings to the table. He has had some exceptional results in doubles and we believe is only starting to display what he is capable of. Jacco is an exceptional student who was awarded an academic scholarship upon his acceptance to UNCW."

Harold Huens, 6-2, RH, Waterloo, Belgium
Current UTR 12.79. (Highest UTR in the Colonial Athletic Association)… Ranked #37 in Belgium Men's National Ranking… Was #1 Ranked Junior in Belgium in several age groups

Coach DuBois Says: "Harold was recommended to us by a former top-10 college player who spoke extremely highly of his potential. After watching a few of his playing videos, we shared his excitement on Harold's potential. Harold is coming in with a higher UTR ranking than anyone in the CAA and has several wins over top-40 ITF Juniors. Harold received many NCAA Division I offers, but was genuinely excited about what we're doing here and is excited about helping us reach the lofty goals we have for our program. Harold is an exceptional student and demonstrates the kind of character we like to see in our players."
