UNCW Overcomes Slow Start At Poston Invitational

SAPPHIRE VALLEY, N.C. – Led by Sander Akeren and Drew Hackett, UNCW overcame a sluggish start in the opening round of the JT Poston Invitational to move into 11th overall after 36 holes on Monday at the Country Club of Sapphire Valley.

Led by Ryan Hall and Jack Wall, who are both tied for fourth, South Carolina owns a two-stroke lead over Chattanooga for the tournament lead.

Chattanooga, though, has the top two in the medalist standings with leader Braedon Wear and Pual Conroy, who enters Tuesday's final round in second just one stroke off the lead.

For Akeren his second round 66, five-under-par, was a season-low and just two strokes off his career-low round of 64 set last spring at the Irish Creek Intercollegiate.

Hackett, who carded an eagle in the second round on a par four, finished three-under for the second round. His round total of 68 was two shots behind his career-low 66 set and equaled last spring.

Patrick Sparks paced the Seahawks at two-under in the first round.

The third and final round tees off on Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. for the Seahawks, who will be paired with Morehead State and Furman.
