Top-Seeded Seahawks Advance To Semis

Box Score WILLIAMSBURG, Virginia – In a match that lasted just 1:37, top-seeded UNCW breezed past No. 8 Hofstra, 4-0, in the quarterfinals of the 2021 Colonial Athletic Association Men's Tennis Championships early Friday at William & Mary's Millie West Tennis Facility.
 
The Seahawks, who won six CAA titles from 2009-2018, hiked their record to 13-5 with the lopsided victory and won for the fifth time in their last six matches. UNCW will face No. 5 James Madison in the semifinals at 11 a.m. on Saturday after the Dukes dispatched No. 4 Delaware, 4-1, in the first quarterfinal on Friday.
 
The Pride finishes the season at 5-5 and remains winless in five matches all-time vs. UNCW. It marked the 13th straight year that the Seahawks have moved on to the CAA semifinals.
 
UNCW, facing the Pride for the first time in CAA tournament play, won two quick matches in doubles for the early point and then tacked on victories in the first three matches off the court for the shutout, their sixth of the season.
 
The Seahawks won the doubles point for the 14th time in 18 matches when Leonardo Sprovieri and Gabriel Hurtado combined for a 6-1 triumph against HU's Guido Feldberg and Lulien Wolfe.
 
The Seahawks' No. 1 player, Bruno Caula, clinched the match with a convincing 6-1, 6-0, decision over Hofstra's Shawn Jackson. The Cordoba, Argentina, netter improved to 9-6 in singles this season – all at the top of the lineup.
