Men's Tennis Dylan Williams

Busy Week Ahead For Tennis Teams

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW Tennis Courts will be a flurry of activity over the next few days as the Seahawk men's and women's teams each play host to back-to-back matches.

The women, 6-7, 0-2 CAA, continue a four game home stand on Thursday against Campbell before their home finale against CAA rival Charleston on Friday. The men's team, 8-3, look to remain undefeated at home as it welcomes No. 32 VCU on Friday, followed by a clash against Charleston on Saturday.

Prior to Friday's match, the women's team will honor seven individuals who are playing their final home match - Lea Dubois-Rebiere (Perigueux, France), Annie Gupta (Cary, N.C.), Sarah Horn (Lexington, Ky.), Charlotte Madson (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Rachel Marthinsen (Charlotte, N.C.), Celeste Matute (Islip, N.Y.), and Maddy Muller-Hughes (Perth, Australia).

"These seniors have been amazing after taking a big team and helping maintain a culture, being very coachable, and helping keep the team close," said UNCW Women's Tennis Head Coach Hans Olsen. "I can't stress how much I appreciate them for that."

Thursday and Friday marks the team's fifth and sixth matches in a 15-day span. Campbell owns an 11-9 lead in the series with the Seahawk women while Charleston stands 19-4 all-time vs. the UNCW women.

Olsen said, "We have to keep things simple and have a singular focus to avoid overthinking and move on to the next horizon. These two matches will be a great opportunity to build confidence as the CAA Championships approach."

The men head into the weekend with a clean 5-0 record at home. Friday's match marks the first of four straight home matches for Head Coach Mait DuBois and his club.

"We're hard-working, focused, and we love to play at home," said DuBois. "The strength of our team is that we're good at every spot. We don't need a particular person to step up. Instead, our whole team needs to do what it does best."

Doubles has been a strength for the men team this spring. The Seahawks have won the doubles point in eight of 11 matches.

"Every time we win the doubles point, we win the match. We're a very deep team. We have other ways of winning a match, but doubles carry a lot of momentum going into singles."

Friday will be the 19th meeting all-time between the Seahawks and Rams, with the Rams holding a 13-5 advantage. Charleston leads UNCW, 19-6, in the all-time series.

Both Seahawk teams are coming off victories against UNC Greensboro in their last appearance. The men posted their fourth shutout of the year against the Spartans in Greensboro last Saturday, 4-0, while the women prevailed on Sunday in Wilmington, 5-2.
