Seahawks Extend Tennis Winning Streak

CONWAY, South Carolina – The UNCW men's tennis team reeled off its fourth consecutive victory on Saturday with a hard fought 6-1 decision over Georgia Southern at Coastal Carolina's Stevens Tennis Complex.

The Seahawks, playing the Eagles at a neutral site, pushed their record to 6-2 on the season after fighting off three match points at No. 3 doubles and set points at the No. 2 and No. 5 singles positions.

"It was a very physical match," said Mait DuBois, UNCW's veteran head coach. "Georgia Southern plays very feisty and competes well. I thought we did a good job working through some tough positions in singles and doubles.

"John Dransfeld got his first college win today in clinching the doubles. Overall, it was a very strong team match for us."

Freshman Bekhzod Rasamatov clinched the match for the Seahawks by defeating GSU's Murphy McCullough, 7-6 (6), 6-3, at No. 2 singles. UNCW wound up winning five of the six singles matches to improve to 31-15 (.674) in singles play this spring.

UNCW next returns home to take on longtime rival Campbell on Sunday, March 21, at the UNCW Courts. Match time is noon.
