Seahawks Fall To Georgia Southern

HILTON HEAD, South Carolina – Georgia Southern rallied from an early deficit with four straight singles victories to down UNCW, 4-1, in women's tennis Thursday at the sprawling Van der Meer Tennis Center.
 
The Seahawks now stand 3-4 after alternating wins and losses in all seven matches this spring. The Eagles, 5-6, snapped a two-match losing streak with the neutral site triumph.
 
UNCW lost the first doubles match off the court, but stormed back to take the remaining two doubles matches to collect the early point for the fifth time in seven tries. The No. 1 tandem of Maddy Muller-Hughes and Anna Parker-Shumate edged GSU's Charlotte van Diermen and Nadja Meier, 7-6, to give the Seahawks an early 1-0 advantage.
 
GSU, however, dominated the singles competition, winning at No. 1, No. 3, No. 2 and No. 4 to nail down the win.
 
The Seahawks wrap up their six-match road trip on Friday, March 12, with a pair of matches against Stetson (10 a.m.) and Albany State (3 p.m.) in Hilton Head.
