Seahawks Post Second Home Shutout

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW men's tennis team recorded its second home shutout in as many tries on Sunday, thumping NCAA Division II Mount Olive, 7-0, at the UNCW Courts.
 
The Seahawks raised their record to 3-2 this spring by winning the match in just 1:40. The Trojans now stand 2-2.
 
Playing in breezy conditions with temperatures in the low 70s, the Seahawks needed just 25 minutes to claim the doubles point and then surrendered only 19 games to sweep the six singles matches.
 
"I was really proud of how we played today and the progress we've made in the past week," said veteran UNCW Head Coach Mait DuBois. "The conditions were kind of tough today and our guys put in a very professional performance. We hope to continue to build going into next week when we get to play at home again."
 
The No. 2 doubles team of Michael Copeland and Gabe Hurtado wrapped up the doubles point with a bagel (6-0) over Mount Olive's Israel Rodriguez and Victor Nunez.
 
After Bruno Caula (No. 1) and Hurtado (No 3) notched their singles outings, junior Davide Innocenti clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-0 rout of Adam Ibrahim at No. 2 singles.
 
The Seahawks kicked off a three-match home stand on Sunday. The team will next take on Charlotte on Friday, Mar. 5, in a 1 p.m. match.
