Box Score ASHEVILLE, North Carolina – The UNCW women's tennis team squared its record at 2-2 this spring by defeating UNC Asheville, 5-2, on Thursday in a non-conference match at the Asheville Racquet Club.
 
The Seahawks conclude their early-season swing to the western part of the state by taking on Gardner-Webb on Saturday in a 1 p.m. match.
 
"This was a full team effort," said Head Coach Hans Olsen. "We carried ourselves with a lot of confidence and belief. Our team energy was awesome today."
 
The Seahawks claimed the doubles point when senior Rachel Marthinsen and sophomore Zoe Huffman teamed up for a 6-4 decision over UNCA's Beatrice Faureng and Brianna Taranto. It marked a successful collegiate debut for Huffman, who also won at No. 6 singles.
 
UNCA captured the first match off the court in singles and the match was still knotted at 2-all when senior Maddy Muller Hughes outlasted Anastasia Horvat, 7-6, 4-6, 7-5, at No. 3 singles, setting up the clincher by sophomore Sarah Merrill in a 6-3, 7-5, decision over UNCA's Taylor Love.
 
Through four matches this spring, the Seahawks stand 12-12 in singles and 7-5 in doubles play.
