Volleyhawks Visit Clemson For Two

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Dottie Hampton era begins this weekend when the Seahawks host Davidson in an indoor volleyball doubleheader on Saturday. Match times are set for 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. in Hanover Hall.

Hampton, who was hired to lead UNCW's volleyball programs in May of 2020, comes to the program following a tenure at Coastal Carolina. UNCW will be her third stint as a head coach, previously leading the programs at Niagara and at South Carolina as an interim head coach in 2017.

The Seahawks are taking the court for the first time in 2021 and the doubleheader kicks off a 14-match spring season that includes matches with Colonial Athletic Association foes Charleston, William & Mary, Elon and James Madison. The five schools make up the South Division of the CAA and the top two programs with the best conference winning percentage will play in the CAA Championship Tournament at Towson in early April.

Davidson, meanwhile, split a pair of early season matches, sweeping visiting Jacksonville but falling in three against Charlotte. The Wildcats have not played since that setback to Charlotte on Jan. 24.
Senior Brynn Montgomery is the top returning offensive player for the Seahawks, averaging 4.97 assists and hitting .164 from her setting position. Montgomery added 1.53 kills per set while Kyla Augustine and Katie Lanz averaged 1.44 and 1.43, respectively.

Upfront, Becca Nuanez is the top returning starter, having made 21 as a sophomore. She compiled 66 total blocks last season and hit .247 from the middle.

UNCW hosts Norfolk State on Feb. 16 before heading to Clemson for two matches on Feb. 20.
