Track Schedules Set For Seahawks

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW track and field teams have five indoor meets and eight outdoor meets on the docket for the upcoming 2021-22 spring season.

It's a welcome sight for the Seahawks following an abbreviated 2020-21 season brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic.

"Our small, elite mentality is all about opportunity," said third-year head coach Jeff Klaves. "We are back to a full schedule this year that provides chances to compete against teams and student-athletes who competed at the NCAA Championships last year.

"Our team looks forward to showcasing the work they've put in during the fall and building to the CAA championships and beyond."

Klaves and his team christen the indoor season on Jan. 21-22, 2022, with an appearance at VMI's Keydet Invitational in Lexington, Va., before making back-to-back trips to Lynchburg, Va., for a pair of meets hosted by Liberty. The final in-season indoor meet, the JDL DMR Invitational at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, comes in mid-February.

As usual, the Seahawks begin the busy outdoor slate with their two home meets. The UNCW Invitational takes place on Saturday, Mar. 5, while the Seahawk Invitational is set for one week later on Mar. 12. The program's Senior Day, Alumni Weekend and UNCW T&F Hall of Fame recognition will be held on the Mar. 12 date.

The Seahawk men and women have six other outdoor meets scheduled throughout the spring, culminating with the Colonial Athletic Association Championships in Boston on May 6-7.
