Seahawks Finish First Day In Athens

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Sophomore Gabe Hurtado and freshman Trey Mallory recorded singles victories as the UNCW men's tennis team wrapped up first-day action of Georgia's Bulldog Invitational on Friday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

The Seahawks went a combined 3-8 on the day in singles and doubles. There are four 16-player compass draws. Saturday's action will consist of two rounds of singles and one round of doubles, beginning at 9 a.m.

Hurtado, a sophomore from Bogota, Colombia, rallied past Auburn's Spencer Gray, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, while Mallory, a newcomer from South Hampton, Bermuda, outlasted Vanderbilt's Connor Robb-Wilcox, 6-7 (4), 5-2, 2-1, ret.

In addition to the Seahawks and Bulldogs, the tournament features players from Auburn, Furman, Georgia State, Georgia Tech, Miami, South Carolina, UNC Charlotte, Ole Miss, Tennessee Vanderbilt.
