Sparks Shines For UNCW At Williams Cup

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW redshirt freshman Patrick Sparks, playing as an individual, delivered an even-par score in the third round of the Williams Cup presented by Stitch on Tuesday to finish tied for 16th overall at Eagle Point Golf Club.

The Seahawks, one of 10 programs to play in the inaugural event hosted by North Carolina, tied Iowa for ninth overall. The host Tar Heels claimed a nine-shot victory over Georgia. Vanderbilt, NC State and Michigan State rounded out the top five. Seven of the 10 programs were ranked in the top-50 by Golfstat.

Trent Phillips of Georgia earned medalist honors with a six-stroke win over David Ford of North Carolina. Ford edged NC State's Maximilian Steinlechner by a stroke for second.

For Sparks, it was his first career top-20 finish and his three-round total of 218 was his second lowest of the season. Sparks led the tournament with 42 pars.

Walker Isley, another redshirt freshman, tied for 26th with redshirt junior teammate Lansdon Robbins. Isley posted his best tournament score of the fall at 221 and his best finish of the fall.

The Williams Cup concluded the fall slate for the Seahawks, who open their spring season at the Florida Gator Invitational on Feb. 12-13, 2022.
