Burroughs Repeats as CAA Rookie of the Week

RICHMOND, Virginia – UNCW freshman forward Kayla Burroughs has been named Colonial Athletic Association Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week for the second straight week after leading the Seahawks to a key victory over Delaware.

Burroughs, the sixth Rookie of the Week selection this season for the Seahawks, scored two goals in the Seahawks' 3-1 victory that vaulted them to the top of the CAA standings. The Asheboro, N.C., product opened the scoring in the 49th minute after converting a pass from sophomore defender Bentley Settin and then added an insurance goal in the 77th minute.

Burroughs, held without a goal in her first eight college games, has erupted for five goals in the last three outings. She is the first UNCW player to register back-to-back two-goal efforts since Kristine Mengle reeled off a streak of three straight multi-goal games in 2001.

Burroughs, a starter in 10-of-11 games for Coach Chris Neal, has tallied five goals with one assist in her rookie campaign.

UNCW, which secured a spot in the CAA Championship Field with Sunday's win over the Blue Hens, carries a 10-2-1 overall record and 6-1-0 league mark into its final two regular season games this week. The Seahawks travel to the College of Charleston on Thursday, Oct. 28, for a 7 p.m. start before hosting Towson on Sunday, Oct. 31, at 1 p.m.
