Seahawks Battle Elon in High-Stakes Semifinal Clash

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW women's soccer, the 2025 Coastal Athletic Association South Division Champions and No. 1 overall seed, will host No. 3 seed Elon in the CAA semifinals at UNCW Soccer Stadium on Sunday, Nov. 2, at 1 p.m.

Sunday's matchup will feature nine all-league selections, including the CAA Attacking Player of the Year Hailey Longwell (UNCW) and the CAA Defensive Player of the Year Grace Gelhaus (Elon).

After being picked fourth in the Coastal Athletic Association preseason poll, UNCW improved its win total from the 2024 campaign by seven and captured the 2025 CAA South Division Championship and the No. 1 overall seed with a league-high 23 points in CAA play.

The Seahawks finished the 2025 regular season with an 11-3-3 overall record and a 7-0-2 record in league play, marking the first time in program history (32 seasons) that the Seahawks finished a full season of conference play unbeaten.

Elon (11-2-5, 4-2-3 CAA), the preseason favorites in the South Division, earned a 1-0 road win at No. 2 seed William & Mary in the quarterfinals on Thursday, Oct. 30. Forward Ashlee Brehio scored in the fifth minute of the match to lead the Phoenix to victory.

Earlier this season, UNCW rallied for a 1-1 draw on the road against Elon on Oct. 2. The Seahawks held a 5-4 advantage in shots and a 4-2 edge in shots on goal. UNCW also had a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks, including the first three of the match in the opening 10 minutes.

Jess Beck gave Elon a 1-0 lead in the 56th minute, but Longwell scored the equalizer for UNCW in the 73rd minute.

Longwell brings a seven-match point streak into Sunday's matchup. The redshirt sophomore forward led all players in the league with six goals and 15 points during conference play, including a goal against all South Division opponents.

The Seahawks nearly recorded the match-winner against Elon in the final seconds, but a foul call preceding the shot negated the goal.

The winner will face Monmouth or Stony Brook in the championship match on Saturday, Nov. 8.
