WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW softball team gets its fall schedule underway on Sunday, Oct. 24, when the Seahawks welcome East Carolina to Boseman Field for a 10-inning contest at 1 p.m.
It will be the first of three contests against an outside opponent during the fall schedule. The Seahawks will host UNC Pembroke for a doubleheader on Saturday, Oct. 30, before closing the weekend with a game against Coastal Carolina on Sunday, Oct. 31.
Coach
Kristy Norton, who begins her 10th season as the Seahawks' bench boss, returns a group of 15 letter winners from last year's squad that authored a 15-23 record, including a 9-9 mark in Colonial Athletic Association play.
Senior catcher
Jada Santiago headlines the group of returning Seahawks after earning Third-Team NFCA All-Region honors last spring. The Pine Level, N.C., product finished fifth in the CAA with a .390 batting average and 36 runs batted in.
Senior pitcher/infielder
Janel Gamache also returns after claiming Second-Team All-CAA distinction. One of four players to start all 38 games last season, Gamache was the Seahawks' leading hitter with a .391 average and also made 21 appearances in the circle with two saves.
In addition to the three October contests, the Seahawks will hold their annual Navy/Teal World Series on Nov. 5-6 at Boseman Field.
