Rasamatov Pulls Upset At ITA Carolina Regional

DURHAM, North Carolina – Sophomore Bekhzod Rasamatov upset top-seeded Brian Cernoch of North Carolina and advanced to the Round of 32 to highlight the UNCW men's tennis team's results on the first day of the ITA Carolina Regional on Friday hosted at Duke.

The Seahawks competed against several of the region's best teams at the Ambler Tennis Stadium/Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center.

Rasamatov, co-Rookie of the Year in the Colonial Athletic Association one year ago, knocked off Cernoch, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4, in an opening round stunner. Cernoch, a senior, is a two-time returning All-America selection for the Tar Heels.

Rasamatov then ousted UNCG's Alex Zuckerman, 6-2, 7-6 (6), in his second match of the main singles draw.

Overall, the Seahawks collected four victories in the singles consolation bracket to round out the day.
