WILMINGTON, North Carolina - The UNCW women's tennis team compiled a 4-12 record on two different fronts during in-state trips to Winston-Salem and Durham on Thursday.

In Winston-Salem, N.C., eight Seahawks competed in the ITA Carolina Regional at the Wake Forest Tennis Center. The tournament is featuring more than 20 teams, including UNCW, Appalachian State, Duke, North Carolina and South Carolina.

The UNCW women fashioned a 2-5 singles record and 1-3 doubles ledger at the ITA's. Graduate student Rachel Marthinsen and Zoe Huffman picked up singles victories, while Marthinsen teamed up with junior Sarah Merrill for an 8-0 shutout of UNCG's Olivia Gallagher and McCollough Perry.

In Durham, N.C., three players from UNCW competed in the NCCU Invitational hosted by North Carolina Central at the NCCU Tennis Courts. A total of 14 players from UNCW, Campbell and North Carolina A&T opened the two-day event on Thursday. 

The Seahawks went 1-2 in singles and 0-2 in doubles on the first day of the NCCU Invitational. Freshman Stela Joksimovic recorded the lone victory, defeating Campbell sophomore Rhona Cook, 6-2, 6-3..

Action continues on Friday in both tournaments.
