Seahawks Notch Two Victories In Annapolis

ANNAPOLIS, Maryland – The UNCW women's tennis team brought home a pair of titles after a solid finish in the Navy, Blue & Gold Invitational over the weekend at the U.S. Naval Academy.

Seahawk graduate transfer Lauren Gish of Mooresville, N.C., captured the championship of the B/C Flight with a convincing 6-2, 6-3, victory over Navy sophomore Samantha Johns.

In doubles Gish and graduate transfer Sasha Belaya routed Maryland's Minorka Miranda and Marta Perez Mur, 8-1, in the Flight A final.

"Our team took a big step forward this weekend at the Navy Invitational," said Head Coach Hans Olsen. "Our team is starting to compete really well. The team energy is improving and we will continue to build on this momentum."

The Seahawks next compete in the ITA Regionals in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Oct. 21-24, 2021, and the N.C. Central Invitational on Oct. 21-22, 2021.
