Women's Tennis Team Makes Home Debut

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – After tackling three matches on a rigorous northern swing, the UNCW women's tennis team makes its home debut on Saturday when Appalachian State visits the North Carolina coast.

The Seahawks, 2-2, battle the Mountaineers at 1 p.m. in the first of eight home appearances for the club.

"We're excited about playing at home and looking forward to taking another step as a team," said Hans Olsen, UNCW's fifth-year coach. "We're getting stronger mentally and physically. Our team has respect for the Appalachian State program and we look forward to a tough match on our home courts."

The Seahawks are anchored by senior Celeste Matute and stand 11-13 (.458) in singles and 7-5 (.583) in doubles play. Matute is 2-1 at No. 2 singles, while freshman Sarah Merrill carries a 3-1 record at the No. 4 and No. 5 positions into Saturday's match.

The Mountaineers are also 2-2 this spring, defeating Campbell UNCG and losing at N.C. State and Virginia Tech.
