Holmes, Rodgers Pace Seahawks In CAA's

ELON, North Carolina – Moe Holmes tied the conference record for career gold medals and Nathan Rodgers became UNCW's first decathlon winner since 2014 as the 2019 Colonial Athletic Association Track & Field Championships drew to a close on Saturday at Elon's Jerry and Jeanne Robertson Track and Field Complex.

The Seahawks finished third in the men's team standings and eighth in the women's competition. Northeastern captured its fifth consecutive men's championship and Delaware won the women's crown for the first time since 2014.

Holmes, a senior from Washington, D.C., added to his cache of medals with three outstanding finishes on the meet's final day. He won the High Jump with a leap of 6-05.50 and edged teammate E.J. Green with a time of 14.34 in the 110 Meter Hurdles. Holmes also placed second in the Triple Jump with a mark of 46-05.50.

Holmes matched the CAA record for gold medals with three other athletes, but set a school record with seven first-place finishes during his storied career. He finished just one shy of total medal count by a Seahawk thinclad.

Rodgers, meanwhile, became the sixth Seahawk to win the Men's Decathlon crown with a total of 6,231 points. The Livonia, Mich., product won seven of the 10 events in the Decathlon and beat out Northeastern's Kurt Robakiewicz by 426 points. Rogers, who competed in a whopping13 events over the two days, is UNCW's first decathlon champion since Caleb Mathis took first place in 2014.

Green, meanwhile, put himself in strong position to advance to the NCAA Championships First Round competition in Jacksonville, Fla., with his 52.02 time in the 400 Meter Hurdles.

"Overall, the meet went very well," said first-year UNCW head coach Austin Davis. "Our women's team took some lumps, but they competed very hard. When you go down the list, every kid stepped up when we asked them to.

"I'm not sure how more you can ask of Nathan. He did a phenomenal job. Moe was the star of the meet. It seemed like every time you turned around, he was winning a medal and it was gold at that."
